The new project, called Hannah Montana Linux v26.0, brings back the internet-famous distro as a Debian-based live system with a heavily themed KDE Plasma desktop. Importantly, rather than being built from scratch, it is a nostalgic remaster that simply updates the original joke for today’s Linux desktop.

What’s with everyone’s obsession with this mascot? Everyone had it as their goal explosion in Rocket League during a period. I got so sick of it.

I mean, she’s not just a mascot, there’s a whole media franchise behind Hatsune Miku: video games, music, tv shows. Plus it mimics the whole idol culture that’s so popular in Asia. I find it hardly surprising that any franchise with that much content is popular.

Probably both, popularity is often both a factor of “actually good” and “well-marketed”.

She has also been around for a long time at this point, building more fans all the while. Debuted in 2007.

Well, I just don’t respond well to the weeb culture I guess. And I’m not really a macho type guy either. I love Scrubs for example, so stoked to be watching the new series right now.

But idolizing these hyper-cutsie pixels, I will just never relate to it. I will never relate to idolizing anyone or anything, I think.

I think you’re thinking about it too hard! You don’t need to feel pressured to like things that other people like.

It’s not about that, I don’t feel any pressure whatsoever. 🙂 I feel very confident in not getting trapped into idolization.

But I’m also curious what the actual point is in wrapping one’s life up into someone else’s or something else. To be so void of own purpose or self worth to the point of worshipping someone else like a god. Even something that isn’t even real.

Not saying that all fans of these types of characters are like this, of course, but some are.
