Debian would be the most obvious choice. Perhaps Alma is also a good option. If you would like a european option, OpenSUSE leap can also do the job.

Mint is a good project. It helps people get free from Windows and MacOS. I like Mint.

There is still software that is only shipped through:

1. Proprietary installer
2. Snap

It would be great if they would move to Flatpak.
