Just an fyi you can basically get the full steamOS frontend as a session pretty dang easy with gamescope. I’m not talking just normal big picture mode either, like just the normal steamOS gaming front end.

I have it setup with fedora 44 kde right now for when I’m using my TV with my PC across the room.

My man were talking about hardware from like the 90s lol. Linux is amazing on keeping old hardware going, but even it has to move on at some point.

I would go with debian with a light weight desktop. If you have issues after that maybe puppy Linux?

I’ve been using Fedora KDE since V40.

I have had some weird issues in the past where a network adapter randomly won’t work on startup a few years back, but haven’t had issues since.

Also back when I had a Nvidia GPU, I remember it having issues updating drivers due to not waiting long enough before restarting even though it said update complete and causing the driver the not work properly.

Those are really the only issues I’ve had with it, mostly just works for me personally.

Does windows let you control external monitor brightness at all? I don’t think ive ever seen the option for external displays on windows.

After switching between distros for 8+ years and settling on Fedora KDE, I don’t think I’ve ever had SELinux get in my way for anything.

It is a work device. I was just allowed to use fedora until now.

Those of you who are telling me to look for a new workplace over an OS change are a bit crazy though lol. It’s not quite that bad.

Issue is I won’t be able to sign into my work’s SSO due to it requiring the device to be entra enrolled after the change :(

It was on a work issued device already, so I can’t complain too much. Still sucks though after using it for so long.
